The Future of the Oregon Council

A resolution was presented at the last meeting to dissolve the Oregon Council of Rock & Mineral Clubs. A copy has been included at Resolution (a PDF file).

Some members of the council's leadership feel that the decline in council membership has diminished the council's effectiveness at fulfilling its mission (which is printed on the other side of this announcement). Others feel the council provides a valued service to its member rock & mineral clubs.

The council will vote on this resolution at their summer meeting in Madras. To ensure that , it is important that each member club is represented at the meeting. Each club's representative is entitled to vote on the resolution.

New Officers Sought for New Term

The council's summer meeting is also the time when new officers are elected to serve a one-year term. If you are interested in preserving you access to public lands and interacting with rock collectors from all over the state, you should consider participating in the Oregon Council of Rock & Mineral Clubs leadership.

Just show up at the summer meeting and let us know you're interested in helping. It's really more fun than work!

The Oregon Council Competition

Each year, the OCRMC conducts a competition to encourage Oregon rock & mineral club members to create appealing displays that showcase their skills in the lapidary arts. The winner of this competition is awarded the Oregon Council Trophy, engraved with their name. The trophy is retained by the winner for one year, or until the next Oregon Council Competition.

Congratulations to Lamar Tilgner of the Mt. Hood Club, the 2008 winner of the Oregon Council Trophy.
